Watch Return to addresses

I’m getting complaints that some people are receiving books that should be sent to a different library. Please make sure you are returning the item to the right address.

1st Annual Grand Prairie Rabbit Festival

Looking for a good read? Here’s a review by Reference Librarian Linda Jordan

Consider reading “First Annual Grand Prairie Rabbit Festival,” by Ken Wheaton.  Available from ODL.

This novel is a romp through rural Louisiana, with a young Catholic Priest, “Father Steve.”  Wheaton, through Father Steve, develops the characters into people the reader can like and believe in.

Wheaton is a storyteller.  His characters are likeable and faced with real situations.  Miss Rita, daughter of a slave, raised Father Steve and she still has an influence on his life.  Vicki is the illegitimate daughter of the previous priest at St Pete’s.  Mark is an ex-priest, who is now openly gay.

Their adventures are hilarious and their world is heartwarming.

Take a peek at Wheaton’s blog.

Referrals For School Libraries Has Ended

The ILL office at the Okla Dept of Libraries has suspended referring items for schools until the start up of classes in August. Items requested between now and August will be cancelled unless our office is contacted directly before submitting a request.  School will be out soon and our past experience is that once schools are closed for summer, lending libraries often don’t receive their materials back until the start up of the fall semester.

Go Gardening at ODL on WorldCat

Doesn’t a yummy home grown tomato sound good? Linda Jordan, one of ODL’s reference librarians tells you how to search for ODL tomato books on WorldCat.

Want to see what new books about tomatoes are available for loan from ODL?

Go to WorldCat at http://newfirstsearch.oclc.org/  and log on.

At <WorldCat advanced search >, put <tomatoes> in the <Search for>  box and pull down the arrow to <subject> on the box opposite.

Notice there are other boxes, below the search boxes.  You may have to scroll down.

Under < Limit to:> I put 2000-2010.

Put “OKD” in the < Limit availability to: > near the bottom of the search page.  This is a good way to choose materials available from ODL.

Play around with these boxes.  Consider searching for sound recordings and /or videos at ODL.

Watch those Due Dates!

Remember to return materials to the Lending libraries in a timely manner. We’re seeing a lot of RECALLED messages on OCLC. We don’t want to lose our borrowing rights from any library because materials are not returned. So please help us by returning items when the lending library sets the due date.

Blank Emails

We recently have had problems with our system generated emails that notify you when requested materials have been shipped, or that items requested are unavailable for loan.  If any of you continue to receive these blank emails, please notify our office.  Do not respond to these system generated emails. They are not monitored.  If you have questions, contact one of the trainers on our ’Contact Us’ page of this blog.
