ODL is moving from one server to another for our circulation system which is causing the View and Renew feature in our catalog to not work. If you need to renew any of our books loaned to you, contact David Hankey in our Circulation Dept at 405-522-3491 or 800-522-8116.

Oprah Free Books-Library Name
Good Morning! We’ve received some of your requests for Oprah’s book we’re giving away, but some of you have just given your name. We also need the name of your library. Please identify yourself as well as your library. You can either comment on the blog or send an email to mcaruthers@oltn.odl.state.ok.us
Thanks
Oprah’s 2009 Book Club Selection -Say You’re One of Them
We have received NINE extra copies of the new Oprah Book Club Selection so we will give a copy to the first nine libraries requesting one. Please comment on the blog and Linda Jordan will send you a copy!
What the Messages on your requests mean.
Request Sent
does not mean the item has been sent or shipped to you, it means that we have sent your requests on in our referral system to potential lenders.
Cancelled by ILL staff
means ODL is sending the book or it is currently out or is on order and we have placed a hold on it for you.
Customer notified by e-mail
means the item is shipped from another instate oclc library or an out of state library.
Request finished
means we have done an automatic received/ returned on the item in WorldCat.
Going through ODL in Illiad, it’s not possible for us to be able to generate an email when the lending library has completed the request on OCLC. Just as with Agent, we never knew when an item made it’s way back to the lending library. Although you updated the status to returned in agent, because the request was in our referral code, we updated daily all returned items in Agent to ‘Complete’ which on your end looked as though the lending library had received it back when in reality it was really our referral code that you were communicating with and not the lending library. Unless you hear from the lending library in the form of an email or an overdue, you can assume the item got back. If you have any other questions or comments continue to use the blog page.
Subject requests become “Ask a Librarian”
For example, a patron wants a book on Chinese astrology. A book on this subject is not in your collection. Rather than searching for an appropriate title, go to
Ask A Librarian
on the ODL catalog page and in the big box just ask for us to send you a book on this subject. This will be a lot simpler than the old Subject Request forms.
Problems anyone?
Please comment to the blog or contact the person who trained you if you are having any problems using Illiad for your Interlibrary Loans. We want to make sure everyone who was trained feels comfortable using Illiad.
Also you might want your patrons to use WorldCat.org to find material they are interested in getting. WorldCat.org can allow your patrons to see the Oklahoma OCLC libraries that own this material and it will also give them an OCLC number to make requesting the item easier for you.
Let us know about any questions or problems.
Reminder !!!!
Do not respond to system generated emails.
These are not read by a human only a computer. If you have a question about a request please call Melecia at 522-3473 or the contact person who trained you. We think you should give the material two weeks before you worry about it. Sometimes for larger libraries the books don’t actually get put in the mail until after the weekend or it takes them a little longer to actually get it out their door.
Once your interlibrary loan material is shipped, the request will appear in View Request History and will show Request Finished. If ODL is going to fill it, the request will show Cancelled, and we’ll mail it to you.
Steps in Interlibrary Loan process on Illiad
You will next receive an email letting you know when the item has been shipped. The request will move in your Illiad Account to View Request History and the status will change to Request finished.
1. Request Sent = ODL has referred your request.
2. Email notification that a Lending Library has shipped your request.
3. Request moves to History and Request finished status in Illiad.
For materials ODL owns, you will not get a shipped notice we will just send the book on to you. You can always check your ODL Library Account and see what is out to you and if we have placed any books on hold. Remember this requires your ODL library card number.
Fresh from the ODL Reference Desk.
Do you know the origins of ice cream, recipes for “frontier food” or an original recipe for pumpkin pie? An amazing website, The Food Timeline http://www.foodtimeline.org/ is a great source to answer historic food questions. It is divided into two columns, Beginnings and Recipes which range from 17,000 B.C. to 2009. If you can’t find an answer to a food question, the question can be submitted through the website with a promised turnaround time of 48 hours. Be sure to go all the way to the bottom to “Hungry for More”.
Thanks for the Tasty Tip Ms. Miller.
